Angular is what it's all about during the NG-BE Conference 2023

Angular is what's trending during the NG-BE Conference 2023
On 23 and 24 March, the NG-BE Conference 2023 took place in Ghent. Developers and experts from all over the world immersed themselves for a whole day in everything that is 'Angular', exchanging ideas, expertise, and news between workshops and lectures. Toinon Naesen, .NET Developer at Anchr (then still AXI Software), shares her experience of the conference and what stood out to her.

NG-BE Conference: the Angular event in Belgium and beyond

The NG-BE Conference is an annual conference focused on the latest trends and technologies in Angular development. The conference, which has built a reputation as one of the most important events for Angular professionals in Europe, brings together developers and engineers to share expertise and insights. ‘As a visitor, you will find keynote speeches, workshops, and sessions on a variety of topics related to Angular, including best practices, performance optimisation, and user experience,’ says Toinon Naesen, .NET Developer at Anchr. The NG-BE Conference also provides a platform for networking and collaboration among participants, sponsors, and speakers.

Anchr (formerly AXI Software) was a Silver Sponsor

Anchr - this year’s Silver Sponsor - was certainly not to be missed. ‘Within the Microsoft Development team at Anchr, we often develop projects using Angular for front-end development. Keeping ourselves informed about the latest trends and exchanging ideas with other professionals is therefore very interesting and educational,’  says Toinon Naesen.

Angular, the framework for building mobile and web applications

Angular is a popular front-end web application framework, developed and maintained by Google, that can be used for building web applications. It provides developers with a powerful set of tools for creating dynamic, interactive, and responsive user interfaces.

Discover here the most interesting NG-BE speakers and highlights according to Toinon.

Simona Cotin

Engineering Manager of the Angular team at Google, about ‘ACCELERATING DEVELOPER EXPERIENCE IN ANGULAR’.  She talked about new features in Angular (version 16 by now) including standalone migration tooling, more stable standalone and Chrome Dev tools. Additionally, she shared what is upcoming in version 17: updating the documentation, updating runtime schematics to make it easier to create standalone-compatible libraries.

Alisa Duncan

Senior Developer Advocate at Okta, over ‘ANGULAR COMPONENT TEST HARNESSES FTW’.  Alisa talked about writing easier component unit tests and how to maintain them best. She demonstrated through a website about K-drama films how she uses harnesses for this purpose.

Stefan Baumgartner

Software Architect and owner of oida.dev, speaking about ‘THE LIES WE TELL OURSELVES USING TYPESCRIPT’. He talked about Typescript, one of the most used and beloved programming languages, and provided some examples where Typescript is used but where there has been cheating with the code due to JavaScript error messages.

Jeff Whelpley

Co-founder of GetHuman and Google Developer Expert, on Partial DOM Hydration. He spoke about the dangers of UX and Ad display and how we can address these in the short term. Additionally, there will be something done about it in the long term by Angular.

NG-BE Conference 2024, here I come

If it depends on Toinon, she will be back next year: ‘I have learned a lot about the innovations that are coming for Angular and primarily about the innovations that have already been implemented, such as the Chrome Dev tool. Debugging applications is very important, and through this tool, you can debug even more and see where the errors in the application are located. I look back on an informative day that has taught me a lot as a starting developer.’
