Jessa Hospital shares patient data clearly and securely thanks to Posit Connect
Oncology research
Driven by a strong commitment to its patients and the urge for continuous improvement, Jessa Hospital is actively involved in the BALLETT study (Belgian Approach of Local Laboratory Extensive Tumor Testing), a project involving a total of thirteen different Belgian hospitals. The aim of the study is to investigate the added value of extensive tumour testing (Comprehensive Genomic Profiling or CGP) in assigning appropriate treatment to cancer patients. CGP focuses on identifying both small genetic mutations and larger genetic variants across around five hundred genes, along with several other tumour-related genetic parameters. Depending on the results of this research, a patient may be eligible for a specific treatment.
The results of the research and the subsequent recommendations for a specific therapy are discussed weekly in the Molecular Tumor Board, which consists of experts from various disciplines. To facilitate this discussion, Jessa Hospital required a method to quickly and easily access a patient's data, as well as a way to share that data securely, clearly, and simply.
Follow-up of patients with BALLETT application
Jessa Hospital developed the BALLETT application. The app presents the most important information for each patient clearly in several tabs, making it easy to consult. A report can also be downloaded for each patient, which can be emailed to the responsible doctor. Additionally, the app also displays more general statistics (across all patients) from the study data. The app retrieves the data from Castor, an external electronic data capture (EDC) system.
Modular Posit Connect platform for enhanced insights
To display the data collected by the BALLETT application clearly and to share it with the involved doctors, Jessa Hospital relied on Anchr. Anchr installed Posit Connect, formerly RStudio Connect.

Anchr & Posit
Strong partnership
Anchr is the first Full Service Certified Partner of Posit in Belgium and the Netherlands, offering Posit's open source and enterprise data science solutions and services.
With Posit Connect, organisations can effortlessly share their data-driven apps and reports, and data is presented clearly. The Posit Connect platform thus provided the ideal solution to meet the needs of Jessa Hospital.
Posit Connect is essentially a publishing platform and content hub for the work created by data science teams, as André Geertse, Project Leader at Anchr, adds. ‘Sharing data and reports can be done in a user-friendly manner. Anchr installed a new version of Posit Connect in an Ubuntu22.04 environment with the latest versions of both R and Python, enabling Jessa Hospital to share its content (including Shiny Apps) with colleagues.
