Meet Marcel Janse, software engineer at Anchr
Meet Marcel Janse
Anchr Ambassador
- What does a typical workday look like for you?
My main task as a software engineer is to program and maintain software. Additionally, I review my colleagues' work before we deliver our software for testing by the client.
- How do you prefer to collaborate?
Together you are stronger than alone. Coordinating with each other, exchanging knowledge, being open to feedback and giving feedback are important factors that lead to a successful project. A project stands or falls on communication. Tools such as Teams, Jira, and Confluence contribute greatly to this. Teams is great for direct communication within the team. Jira serves as a good guideline for all the tasks needed for the project build. Confluence acts as a reference work, documentation, or preparation for meetings.
- How do you handle challenges?
You should not avoid challenges; you should embrace them, unless they are unrealistic. Complex tasks can often be simplified by breaking them down into smaller tasks. Outlining the logic can also work well. It often helps to discuss your solution with a colleague so that you can brainstorm about it. You don't always have to do it alone 😉
- What makes you happy?
I feel happy when I can help a colleague who is facing a technical problem and feels stuck. Often, by asking the right questions and understanding the thought process, you can identify the mistake in thinking. What I find most rewarding is when a colleague finds the solution themselves while explaining it.
- What opportunities do you see?
I see many opportunities for Anchr. We have a lot of experience in various sectors, both in Belgium and the Netherlands and beyond. This gives us a lot of room to showcase ourselves in every sector and to secure beautiful projects. And with the acquisition of new projects, Anchr creates opportunities to give its employees a boost in their careers.
- What is your best Anchr moment?
I have contributed a lot to beautiful projects within the retail division. Successfully delivering a project remains one of the most rewarding moments, such as the delivery of the self-checkout at Colruyt and the glasses flow at NexEye.
- Why did you choose to work at Anchr?
I joined Anchr five years ago through a traineeship. Anchr has a great balance between work and social activities. Participating in an activity is a fun way to get to know your direct and indirect colleagues. When I had the option to join permanently, I didn’t hesitate for a moment because I feel at home at Anchr.
- Why is Anchr an interesting workplace for you?
Because I do not have a technical background, I had to learn a lot and make it my own at the beginning. Even after five years, I regularly learn new things. The ability to keep learning is what makes my work at Anchr interesting.
